RHINEBECK – Starr Library Celebrates its 150^th Birthday with a Bash at the Library

The Starr Library was a beacon of hope when it was founded in 1862, a time of great turmoil in our country.  In the 150 years since then, the Starr has carved out a prominent place in the Rhinebeck community.  As the oldest library in the five-county Mid-Hudson system, comprised of 66 libraries – the Starr today serves young and old with the finest reading material, no matter what the format.  

To kick off a yearlong celebration of its sesquicentennial, the Library held a benefit, attended by some 250 guests that helped raise over $50,000.   According to the library’s director, Steven Cook, “These funds will enable the Library to provide our patrons and the Rhinebeck community with the latest and best in library services”.
